That sweet face breaks my heart! You do so much good and I only wish I had the money to give you to help erase the tears of hunger, poverty, pain. I love you for all you do!
You know me by now. I saw the header and ran like hell. But stopped to bury my head in my arms. You know me by now. Could I just walk away? No. Of course not. So I'm here. I blame you. Ever single day I struggle for an answer and every single day I pray for one. I do. I often think that if every person just did one thing to make a difference the world would be different. Just one single thing. That one act of kindness would change the world. I believe that sweetie. I really do. Do you know what I mean?
I often wonder why are we afraid of looking on the face of suffering?...
Do we feel that it will somehow diffuse into our own lives?...
There is joy in the world. There is so much beauty in the world....
But there is also the fact of deep suffering.
When we open our minds and allow the awareness of anothers pain to enter the bounds of our consciousness,
We also open the doorway to healing...
Change begins with awareness...
With knowledge....
So let us not turn our faces from those who suffer...
Let us open our arms and dare to grow our hearts wide enough to hold anothers hand in the nighttime of their soul...
This is love... Pure and simple...
I pray that hearing of poverty or HIV or other illness and strife in our world... will not depress us....but inspire us...
to act...to learn....to build bridges of hope and understanding...
to use our lives in the service of love,
Perhaps what we do will only be a whisper in the storm... but surely it is better to whisper love in a humble corner than to join the chorus of indifference..
Oh my dear brother and friend - this is so powerful and beautiful.
We must all remember that if one goes hungry, we all go hungry. If one heart is broken, we are all broken.
I especially love what you say about those who are far away, as if their dreams and hopes are not as sweet.
We are one. Thank you for always working towards that end - and with your kind heart, lovely eyes and calming voice along with your great passion and hope.
Maithri - you bring this all to us with your gentle voice, the beautiful written word ...and above all..so much humanity and humility. With you I know we will all become citizens of the world.
Your comment is so beautiful, Maithri. What a heart-rendering video and message. Thank you for reminding us not to be afraid of suffering, but to be open to it and its message, so that hopefully, in the end, it can be changed and the lives of others improved through awareness and action.
In the same way that I can't ignore my grandchildren's tears, how can I ignore the tears of the child in this photo. I want to comfort her, bathe her, dress her and feed her. Let her know she is loved, and wanted and important. But that needs to be done and then multiplied by tens of thousands, in order to help all the others like her.Poverty is not a crime, but allowing poverty is. These are our children, and we are responsible for everyone of them. Thank you for doing all you do Maithri. Bless you. xox
is it too selfish of me to be happiest to see YOUR face and hear your words? it's like meeting you in a warm room. and your gentle wisdom: maithri, we are working together, you and i and countless others. we are fighting poverty and limitations with resources, yes, but also with our hearts and hope. hope floats...
Dear brother Maithri, most of us are entangled in our own materialistic mesh that we don't feel or understand the pain or suffering around us. Most of us don't think or look beyond our own petty problems only few like you have a big heart full of kindness and courage to stretch out your hands to the needy. Wish that one day I will be able to do what you are doing. Though I get pained at the suffering around me but I am not able to do what you can because of .........?
I think people think...maybe if we ignore it, it will go away....?
Shame and denial....
And yet, I believe that there IS enough money in the world...if we just changed our thinking and priorities....as you so humbly and gracefully point out here....
We ARE all connected...and when we truly understand this fundamental truth, I must hope, that things will finally change.
Keep on, Maitri. You know that Margaret Mead quote? (I'll try, but it's not verbatim....Oh!! I FOUND it!!!) "A small group of thoughtful, concerned citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
You are one of those people gifted to do this.... And do not let anyone make you feel bad for this... Hopelessness can be ugly.
So sad to see these beautiful children suffering and there is so much more we could do In the first place take responsibility and yes we shouldn't turn our heads What a wonderful work these people do Bless them and you for sharing this with us
The work you do, on this blog, in hospital, around the world, is a blessing.
Yes, you are as ordinarily human as each of us, however, you understand that you are a Spiritual being in a human existence. This allows you to access wisdom that is there for us all, but too many of us have forgotten it is there.
Thank you for helping us to see what is in front of us. Thank you for loving the world so much that you face it head on with such courage.
I just watched your video, listened to your soothing, peaceful voice. I'm looking for words here. Normally they come pretty easily to me - just now, they don't. I want to say so much. A heartfull, actually. All I come up with is, "Amen."
And this. In this one world we share, I am so glad that you are my brother. Humbled to be a part of your family.
Such a long time since I wrote to you. I hope, as I write this, that you are well and strong in spirit.
It was nice seeing you in a video as you speak the matter of our fellow brothers and sisters around the world struggling. It is crucial to our very senses to know the stories behind the numbers and statistics which you manifest in your postings. They aren't numbers, they are, as you say, faces, and kindred.

I want to thank you, dear Maithri, from the bottom of my heart for reminding us of the human faces of poverty and suffering.
It hurts, naturally it does (for you wretched correspondend also), but again thank you.
To be reminded is the first step.
Thank you for your words Maithri.
I found out last year that there are more overweight people for the first time in history than there are starving people. I was shocked.
I am one of the overweight, but I always thought there wasn't enough food to feed the people in the world and I found that is not so.
Thank you again Maithri.
God Bless.
